A narrow, sharp-crested ridge with steep slopes of roughly equal angle on both sides, formed where a resistant rock layer has been tilted to a steep angle, close to vertical, and erosion has stripped away the softer rock around it. A hogback is essentially a cuesta whose rock layers have been tilted so steeply that its two flanks become symmetrical.
