Port Campbell National Park

National Park

Port Campbell National Park, in the Australian state of Victoria, protects limestone formations along the coastline near the Great Ocean Road, about 190 kilometers southwest of Melbourne. Established in 1964 with 700 hectares and expanded to its present 1,750 hectares by 1981, the park includes the Twelve Apostles sea stacks, the London Bridge rock formation, Loch Ard Gorge, Gibson Steps and the Grotto, along with sheer cliffs, offshore islets, gorges, arches and blowholes shaped by the Southern Ocean. Its fragile coastal grasslands support specialized plant life, and its fauna includes honeyeaters, peregrine falcons, penguins and albatrosses among the birds, along with bandicoots and echidnas.
