Conguillió National Park

National Park

Conguillió National Park, in the Andes of the Araucanía Region of Chile, takes its Mapuche name meaning water with araucaria seeds and was established in 1950, covering about 608 square kilometers around the Llaima volcano and the Sierra Nevada. Its landscape mixes lava fields with forest and small lakes, UNESCO designated it part of the Araucarias Biosphere Reserve in 1983, and it also lies within the Kutralkura Geopark, recognized by the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in 2019; its araucaria forests have served as a filming location for the BBC series Walking with Dinosaurs.
