Camargue Regional Natural Park

Protected Landscape and Seascape

The Camargue Regional Natural Park is a regional natural park covering much of the Camargue, the marshy delta of the Rhône River in southern France, designated in 1970 to protect the region's wetlands alongside its traditional agricultural and pastoral life. The park is known for its resident herds of semi-wild white Camargue horses and black Camargue bulls, raised by local ranchers called gardians, and for its large breeding population of greater flamingos. Unlike a strict nature reserve, the park is managed to sustain the traditional rice farming, salt production and cattle ranching that have shaped the landscape for centuries alongside its conservation goals.
