Cabrera Archipelago Maritime-Terrestrial National Park

National Park

Cabrera Archipelago Maritime-Terrestrial National Park protects the entire Cabrera Archipelago, eleven islands in Spain's Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea, administratively part of the municipality of Palma de Mallorca. Established by legislation on April 29, 1991, it covers 908 square kilometers, of which 895 square kilometers is sea, making it the largest national park in Spain by area. The islands have no permanent residents, only about 100 park staff at any time, and their isolation has kept the coastline in what is described as one of the best preserved conditions on the Spanish coast and in the Mediterranean as a whole. The park supports large seabird colonies and endemic species, and is designated a Special Protection Area for birds, part of the Natura 2000 network, and a Specially Protected Area of Mediterranean Importance.
