FAQs

Is Peneda-Gerês National Park part of a UNESCO biosphere reserve?

It is half of the Gerês-Xurés Transboundary Biosphere Reserve that UNESCO declared in 2009.

Yes. Peneda-Gerês National Park and the Baixa Limia-Serra do Xurés Natural Park across the border in Spain together form the Gerês-Xurés Transboundary Biosphere Reserve. UNESCO declared the reserve on 27 May 2009, and it lies partly in Galicia in Spain and partly in the Norte region of Portugal, so the two parks are managed as one shared landscape.
