Pacific Rim National Park Reserve

Protected Area with Sustainable Use of Natural Resources

Pacific Rim National Park Reserve stretches along the west coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Established in 1970, it covers about 511 square kilometers split between marine and terrestrial sections and is managed as an IUCN Category VI protected area with sustainable use of natural resources. The reserve comprises three distinct units, Long Beach, the Broken Group Islands, and the West Coast Trail, where rugged coastline and temperate rainforest support humpback whales, sea lions, and Roosevelt elk. It also protects the Cheewhat Giant, the largest known tree in Canada, and is one of only three Canadian national parks with direct access to the Pacific Ocean, drawing more than 1.16 million visitors a year.
