Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park

Protected Landscape and Seascape

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park is a national park in Scotland covering about 1,865 square kilometers, centered on Loch Lomond and the surrounding hills and glens of the Trossachs. It was established in 2002 as the first of two national parks created by the Scottish Parliament that year, with the Cairngorms following soon after. The park straddles the Highland Boundary Fault, giving it both lowland and highland landscapes, and it is the fourth largest national park in the British Isles. Loch Lomond itself is the largest lake in Great Britain by surface area, and the park contains 21 Munro peaks including Ben Lomond, along with more than 200 recorded bird species and wildlife such as golden eagles, red squirrels and Scottish wildcats. It is governed by a national park authority that is an executive non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government, headquartered in Balloch.
