Mangrove Forest

Rainforests and Tropical Landscapes

A forest of salt-tolerant trees and shrubs growing along tropical and subtropical coastlines in the brackish, tidally flooded zone between land and sea, its tangled aerial roots trapping sediment and buffering the coast against storm surge and erosion. Mangrove forests form a critical nursery habitat for marine life and stand at the direct interface between coastal landforms and tropical vegetation.
