All Regions

Supra-national groupings: named areas that gather more than one country or a recognized part of one under a single geographic, cultural or physical identity, from a continental grouping such as Western Europe to a physiographic or cultural cluster such as the Sahel or the Caucasus that does not follow country lines at all. The tree under this category follows the UN Statistics Division M49 geoscheme for its continental and sub-continental tier, supplemented with the physiographic and cultural groupings the standard scheme does not cover. Does not belong here: a single sovereign country, which is held as its own country entity, or a state or province within one country, held as a state entity; a region entity exists precisely because its membership crosses, or sits below, those harder administrative lines.
