This dimension names the specific type of administrative division a state actually is, a province, a canton or a constituent state. Wikipedia describes administrative divisions broadly as "geographical areas into which a particular independent sovereign state is divided," and the exact division type reflects how a given country has chosen to organize itself internally. Browsing by division type groups subnational units that share the same formal structure.
