Rybinsk Reservoir

Reservoirs

A large reservoir on the Volga River in Russia, formed by a Soviet-era dam completed in 1941 and, at the time, one of the largest artificial lakes in the world. Several towns and villages were submerged during its filling, and their remains occasionally emerge during periods of low water.
