Comodoro Rivadavia

Comodoro Rivadavia, often shortened to Comodoro, is a city in Chubut province in Patagonia, southern Argentina, on the San Jorge Gulf of the Atlantic Ocean at the foot of Chenque Hill. It is the largest municipality in Chubut and the largest city south of the 45th parallel south, with about 201,854 inhabitants at the 2022 census. Established by government decree on 23 February 1901 as a port for the inland settlement of Sarmiento, the city grew rapidly after oil was discovered there in 1907, and petroleum remains central to its economy; a natural gas pipeline 1,770 kilometers long connects Comodoro Rivadavia to Buenos Aires.
