Teresina

Teresina is the capital and largest municipality of the Brazilian state of Piaui, in the Northeast Region, and the only Northeastern state capital not on the Atlantic coast. Its population was about 902,600, making it the 19th largest city in Brazil. Founded in 1852 and named for Empress Teresa Cristina, Teresina forms a conurbation with the city of Timon across the Parnaiba River and is known as one of Brazil's hottest cities, with one of the world's highest rates of lightning activity.
