Bogotá is the capital and largest city of Colombia, administered as the Capital District, and the country's main political, economic, administrative, industrial and cultural center. Founded by the Spanish as Santa Fe de Bogotá on 6 August 1538, on the site of the earlier indigenous settlement of Bacatá, it had a population of 8,034,649 at the 2022 census.
