Florencia

Florencia is the capital of Caqueta Department in the Amazon region of Colombia, on the Hacha River within the Orteguaza River basin at the foot of the Cordillera Oriental. Founded in 1902 by the Capuchin friar Doroteo de Pupiales and named after Florence, Italy in honor of an Italian rubber trader, the city carries the nickname Golden Gate to the Colombian Amazonia. It sits at 242 meters elevation and, with 177,946 residents recorded in 2023, is the most populous city in the Amazon region of Colombia.
