Inirida

Inirida is the capital of Guainia Department in the Amazon region of Colombia, at the confluence of the Inirida and Guaviare rivers about 30 kilometers from the Venezuelan border. Established in 1963 on the site of the village of Obando and renamed in 1974, the municipality covers 15,970 square kilometers of river terraces and bottomland. The 2018 census recorded 31,514 residents, about one third of the department population, with 53 percent identifying as indigenous, chiefly Kurripaco, Puinave and Piapoco people.
