Manizales

Manizales is the capital of the Department of Caldas in the Andean region of Colombia, sitting at 2,160 meters elevation on the Central Mountain Range near the Nevado del Ruiz volcano. Founded on October 12, 1849, the city anchors the northern end of the Colombian Coffee Growers Axis and is a major center of coffee production. The 2018 census recorded about 434,403 residents in the municipality, with a metropolitan area population of 552,155, and the city is also an important educational hub with numerous universities.
