Neiva

Neiva is the capital and largest city of Huila Department in south central Colombia, in the valley of the Magdalena River at 442 meters elevation. First established in 1539 and relocated twice before reaching its current site in 1612 under Diego de Ospina y Medinilla, the city serves as a distribution center for rice, coffee, beef, milk and other agricultural products to the national economy. The 2026 census recorded about 392,009 residents in the municipality, and Neiva is known as the Bambuco capital for its traditional folk music and dance.
