Ibarra

Ibarra, formally San Miguel de Ibarra, is a city in northern Ecuador and the capital of Imbabura Province, at the foot of the Imbabura volcano roughly 114 kilometers northeast of Quito. It had a population of about 157,941 at the 2022 census and sits at an elevation of about 2,225 meters. Founded in 1606, the city was destroyed by an 1868 earthquake and rebuilt in 1872, and it is known today as the White City for its colonial whitewashed buildings and cobbled streets.
