Puyo

Puyo is the capital of Pastaza Province in the Ecuadorian Amazon, on the Puyo River, a tributary of the Pastaza River. Its name comes from the Kichwa word for cloudy, reflecting its frequently overcast, wet climate, and it had a population of about 33,325 at the 2022 census. Founded in 1899, the city sits between Banos and the Amazonian cities of Tena and Macas and serves as the commercial, cultural and political center of the province.
