Ciudad Guayana is a planned industrial city in Bolivar State, Venezuela, stretching about 40 kilometers along the south bank of the Orinoco river at the point where it meets the Caroni River. Built up rapidly from the 1960s onward around the country's iron, steel and hydroelectric industries, drawing on power from the nearby Guri Dam, the city was formed by merging the older settlements of San Felix and Puerto Ordaz into Venezuela's leading center of heavy industry.
