Apamea Ragiana
Southern Asia
Apamea Ragiana, also known as Apamea Rhagiana, Apamea Raphiana, or Apameia Rhagiane, and earlier called Arsace, Khuvar, or Choara, was an ancient Hellenistic city of Choarene in the region of Media, in what is now Iran. According to Strabo it stood 500 stadia south of the Caspian Gates, southeast of Rhagae, and it was founded after the Macedonian conquest of Persia. The city is also mentioned by the Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus. Its precise location is unknown, and the ruins have not been found, though the site is understood to lie somewhere in Iran.
