Sollium

Southern Europe

Sollium, also called Sollion, was a town on the coast of ancient Acarnania on the Ionian Sea, near Palaerus, which lay between Leucas and Alyzia (the traveler William Martin Leake instead placed Sollium south of Alyzia, at Stravolimiona). Founded as a Corinthian colony, it was captured by the Athenians in the first year of the Peloponnesian War, who gave the town and its territory to Palaerus; it is mentioned again in 426 BCE as the place where the Athenian general Demosthenes landed before his invasion of Aetolia.
