North Kazakhstan Region

Region

North Kazakhstan Region is one of the regions, called oblys in Kazakh, of Kazakhstan, and its Kazakh name is Soltustik Qazaqstan. Its capital is Petropavlovsk, a city named for the church of Saints Peter and Paul. On 3 May 1997 the former Kökshetau region was merged into North Kazakhstan, and on 10 April 1999 the Enbekshil`derskiy, Shuchinskiy and Zerendinskiy raions were transferred from it to Aqmola region. The Statoids table gives its area as 98,000 square kilometres. The census of 1 October 2021 counted 540,786 residents, and the 1 January 2026 estimate on citypopulation.de is 514,132.
