Free Association with a Sovereign State

This dimension marks a territory's own political status, whether it is fully self governing, a dependency or something in between. Wikipedia defines a dependent territory as one that "does not possess full political independence or sovereignty as a sovereign state but remains politically outside the controlling state's integral area." Browsing by territory status separates ordinary administrative divisions from places that are governed from somewhere else entirely.
