Rift Valley

Valleys and Rift Systems

A long, linear depression formed where the Earth's crust is being pulled apart along a divergent boundary, dropping a central block of crust down between two roughly parallel faults as the land on either side moves away from it. The East African Rift Valley, actively widening today, is the world's most extensive active example.
