FAQs

Why did Otto von Bismarck matter to Bad Kissingen's fame as a spa town?

Fifteen visits by Chancellor Bismarck helped put the town on the international stage.

According to the city of Bad Kissingen, fifteen visits by the German Imperial Chancellor Otto von Bismarck propelled the town onto the political and international stage. The rooms he lived in during his spa stays are still preserved in the Museum Obere Saline. The city says that, among other reasons because of this political importance, the former world spa has belonged since 2021 to the transnational UNESCO World Heritage listing called Great Spa Towns of Europe.
