Pirna owes eleven city views of worldwide renown to the Italian painter Bernardo Bellotto, called Canaletto. The best known is The Market Square at Pirna of 1753. The town celebrated his 300th birthday, and the market square can still be experienced almost exactly as Canaletto saw it.
