Stavelot

Western Europe

Stavelot is a municipality in the arrondissement of Verviers, in the province of Liège in the Walloon part of Belgium. Statistics Belgium publishes its population, and the table gathered by the City Population site gives the series of 5,717 residents in 1970, 5,915 in 1981, 6,271 in 1991, 6,511 at the 2001 estimate, 6,868 in 2011, 7,174 in 2016, 7,195 at the census of 1 January 2021 and 7,221 at the estimate for 1 January 2026. That is steady growth of about a quarter across fifty years. The province of Liège as a whole is far larger, with about 1.1 million inhabitants and an area of 3,857 square kilometres, so Stavelot is one of the small municipalities within it rather than a regional centre.
