Annaba

Annaba, formerly known as Hippone, Bona and Bone, is a seaport city in the northeastern corner of Algeria, close to the border with Tunisia. Built near the site of ancient Hippo Regius, where Saint Augustine served as bishop in the late Roman period, Annaba grew into a major Mediterranean port and, in the modern era, a center for Algeria's iron and steel industry, drawing on nearby ore deposits.
