Tebessa is a city in northeastern Algeria near the Tunisian border, known in antiquity as Theveste, and serves as the capital of Tebessa Province with a population of about 190,000 as of 2007. Its most significant historical landmarks are the wall that surrounds the city and its gates, and the surrounding region is known for producing traditional Algerian carpets.
