Bafoussam

Bafoussam is the capital of Cameroon's West Region, settled in the 14th century in the Bamboutos Mountains and incorporated as a town in 1926, becoming a city in 2008. The 2008 census recorded 347,517 urban residents, and it ranks as the third most important city in Cameroon financially, after Yaounde and Douala. It is the principal centre of the Bamileke people, whose chief's palace stands in the city, and its economy rests on coffee, potato, maize and bean farming alongside coffee processing and brewing.
