Bandundu

Bandundu is the capital of Kwilu Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, sited on the eastern bank of the Kwango River just north of its confluence with the Kwilu River. Known formerly as Banningville, it was granted city status in 1969 and had a population of 143,435 at the 2012 census. Once an important river port, the city declined after the Second Congo War, though some passenger and freight river services still operate and Bandundu Airport offers direct flights to Kinshasa.
