Gemena is the capital of Sud-Ubangi Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a population recorded at 350,511 in 2017, up from 138,527 at the 2012 census. The city has a large airport and hosts military infrastructure, and it contains a mausoleum honoring Mama Yemo, the mother of Mobutu Sese Seko, who died in Gemena in 1971.
