Mansoura is a city on the eastern bank of the Damietta branch of the Nile in Egypt and capital of the Dakahlia Governorate, with an estimated population of 600,000 in 2024. Established in 1219 by the Ayyubid ruler al-Kamil, its name means victorious in Arabic, commemorating an 1250 victory over the forces of Louis IX of France during the Seventh Crusade, and it is now home to Mansoura University, founded in 1962.
