Sais, Egypt

Sais was an ancient Egyptian city in the western Nile Delta on the Canopic branch of the Nile, in what is now Gharbia Governorate. It served as the provincial capital of the fifth nome of Lower Egypt and was the seat of royal power during the Twenty-fourth Dynasty around 732 to 720 BC and the Twenty-sixth Dynasty from 664 to 525 BC. The city was closely associated with the goddess Neith and, according to Plato, was the source of the Atlantis story told to the Athenian statesman Solon. The modern town of Sa el-Hagar now occupies the site of the ancient ruins.
