Tanta is a city in Egypt, located between Cairo and Alexandria, about 94 kilometers north of Cairo and 130 kilometers southeast of Alexandria. It had a population of 530,000 in 2024, making it the seventh most populous city in Egypt. Tanta is the capital of Gharbia Governorate and a center for the cotton-ginning industry.
