Bata

Bata is the most populous city in Equatorial Guinea and a major Atlantic port in the country's Litoral province, on the coast of the Rio Muni mainland region. It is a major transport hub, with ferry connections to Malabo and Douala and the country's second-largest airport, and its port handles timber and coffee exports despite lacking a natural harbor and relying on a constructed jetty. Bata formerly served as the country's capital, passed through economic stagnation in the 1970s and early 1980s before rebounding during a late-1980s and 1990s oil boom, and recorded a population of 309,345 at the 2015 census.
