Thika is an industrial town in Kiambu County, Kenya, about 42 kilometres northeast of Nairobi at the confluence of the Thika and Chania rivers, formally established under a government gazette in 1924 and made a municipality at independence in 1963. Its 2019 census population was 279,429, and despite Kiambu Town holding the county headquarters, Thika has the largest economy in Kiambu County, hosting roughly 100 small industries and 50 major factories in agricultural processing and textiles. The area inspired Elspeth Huxley's memoir The Flame Trees of Thika, and nearby waterfalls include Chania Falls and Fourteen Falls.
