Mafeteng

Mafeteng is the capital of Mafeteng District in Lesotho, about 76 kilometres south of the national capital Maseru. Its name recalls an early visitor nicknamed Lefeta, meaning traveller or passer-by, and the town was the site of notable fighting during the Gun War of 1880 to 1881, commemorated by a cemetery monument to fallen Cape colonial forces. It had a population of 39,754 at the 2016 census, hosts a garment factory and the Lesotho Pharmaceutical Company, and is home to the Diphiring Mill, a working roller mill established in 1912 by William S. Scott that still processes grain for local communities.
