Quthing

Quthing, also known as Moyeni, is the capital of Quthing district in southern Lesotho and the southernmost town in the country, at an elevation of about 1,500 meters near the border with South Africa's Eastern Cape province. It was established in 1877, abandoned during the Gun War of 1880, and later rebuilt at its present site; the town is divided into Lower Moyeni, used for commerce and residence, and Upper Moyeni, given over to government administration. The 2016 census recorded 27,314 residents. The district holds rock and cave art left by the San people, and King Moorosi of the Baphuthi died on nearby Mount Moorosi in 1879 during conflict with the Cape Colony.
