Minna is the capital of Niger State in Nigeria's North Central region, with archaeological evidence suggesting the area has been settled for roughly 37,000 to 47,000 years. Its original inhabitants belong to the Gbagyi, Nupe and Hausa peoples, and a 2026 estimate put its population at 322,163, with an urban population of 479,908, ranking it Nigeria's 79th largest city.
