Aba is a city in Abia State in southeastern Nigeria, on the west bank of the Aba River and a road junction linking Port Harcourt, Owerri and other major towns. Its estimated population reached about 2.53 million by 2016, making it the largest city in southeastern Nigeria. Established as a market town by the Ngwa clan of the Igbo people, Aba grew after a British military post was placed there in 1901 and a railway to Port Harcourt was completed in 1915; nicknamed "Enyimba City," it remains a major commercial and handicraft center.
