The capital of Ogun State in southwestern Nigeria, on both banks of the Ogun River near a group of rocky outcrops in wooded savanna, about 77 kilometers north of Lagos by rail. Its population was 449,088 at the 2006 census and was estimated at about 735,000 in 2022, as the city has continued to spread into the neighboring Odeda local government area.
