Ado Ekiti is the capital of Ekiti State in southwestern Nigeria and headquarters of the Ekiti central senatorial district. It is described as an ancient city founded by Ewi Awamaro, son of Biritikolu, with roots tracing to fourteenth century migrations from Ile-Ife, and its people belong mainly to the Ekiti sub-group of the Yoruba. The city's population was recorded at 313,690 in the 2006 census, with a 2022 estimate of 469,700.
