Birnin Kebbi

Birnin Kebbi is the capital of Kebbi State in northwestern Nigeria and headquarters of the Gwandu Emirate, which it has served since 1906; it became Kebbi's state capital when the state was created in 1991. Sited on the Sokoto River, its local government area had an estimated population of 458,900 in 2022, up from about 366,200 in 2016, in a predominantly Hausa and Fulani Muslim population whose economy centers on peanut and rice trading and livestock markets.
