Yola

Yola is the capital and administrative centre of Adamawa State in northeastern Nigeria, founded in 1841 by Modibbo Adama on the Benue River. Its name comes from the Fulfulde word for a great or vast plain, and the city is divided into the traditional old town, seat of the Lamido, and Jimeta, the newer administrative and commercial centre about 5 kilometres to the northwest. Its population was recorded at over 392,854 in the 2006 census.
