Mbombela

Mbombela, formerly known as Nelspruit, is a city in northeastern South Africa and the capital of Mpumalanga province, lying on the Crocodile River between Johannesburg and the Mozambique border. It was founded in 1895 by three brothers of the Nel family, briefly served as the seat of the South African Republic's government during the Second Boer War, and grew as a stopover on the railway linking the Witwatersrand goldfields to Delagoa Bay. The city hosted matches during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and was officially renamed Mbombela, meaning many people together in a small space in Siswati, in October 2009; the 2011 census recorded 58,672 residents.
