Mfuwe is a settlement in the Mambwe District of Zambia's Eastern Province, about 100 kilometres northwest of Chipata, that serves as the main gateway to South Luangwa National Park and a center for the area's tourism and wildlife conservation economy. It has an airport with a 2.15 kilometre paved runway handling regional and international flights. Mfuwe holds Zambia's highest recorded temperature, 42.8 degrees Celsius, set on 26 October 2011, and in 1991 the surrounding area was the site of attacks by a maneless lion, known as the Man-Eater of Mfuwe, that killed six people before it was shot.
